Internal wall insulation adds a thermal lining to the room side of an external wall. The right construction depends on the existing wall, its condition and the design for the whole junction, including openings, floors and ceilings.
These boards combine a plasterboard facing with insulation. The specified product, fixing method, background preparation and perimeter details are all part of the installation.
Confirm the complete finished thickness, including any fixing space and finish. Board thickness alone does not tell you how far the new wall surface will project into the room.
A specified framing system supports insulation and a board finish. The design has to show how the insulation, air and moisture control, service routes and adjoining construction work together.
Mark backing for cupboards, radiators and other fixtures before the lining is closed. Include jointing or plastering and decoration in the quotation if you need them.

Find out the wall construction, and investigate damp, leaks or defective external finishes before insulation is fitted. Covering a damp wall can conceal the problem. The proposed materials and moisture strategy must suit the building.
Older solid walls and historic finishes need particular care. Ask a suitably experienced building or retrofit professional to assess the proposal, because some walls will need a different approach.
Review ventilation alongside the insulation. Keep intentional vents and airbricks working, and agree any ventilation alterations. Window reveals, floor edges and adjoining walls need details that deal with gaps in the insulation.
Confirm building-control requirements and any freeholder or landlord consent before work. For listed properties, get conservation advice and check listed-building consent requirements.
Our quotation defines the installation package. Surveys, thermal and moisture design, ventilation design, applications and specialist testing need separately agreed responsibilities. Send existing reports with your enquiry so we can review the scope.
Measure from the existing finished wall to the proposed new finished face. Allow for the complete build-up, then check door swings, furniture, window boards and access around radiators.
Assume a rectangular room is 4.00 m by 3.00 m. A lining on one 4.00 m wall projects 100 mm into the room. The new dimensions are 4.00 m by 2.90 m: 11.60 m² instead of 12.00 m², a reduction of 0.40 m².

A room-area calculation does not show the effect at window reveals, corners or fitted furniture. Mark these on a sketch, including sockets, pipework, shelving and anything you want to keep.
Where more than one wall is lined, work out the resulting room dimensions together so corner areas are not counted twice.
We price the agreed construction package after reviewing the property information and any site visit needed. A price per square metre is only comparable when it covers the same wall area, system and finishing work.

For labour-only work, tell us who supplies the specified materials and makes them available in the work area. For supply-and-fit, list the included products and associated work. The written quotation should state exclusions, provisional items and the applicable VAT treatment.

Send your postcode, the rooms and walls involved, approximate lengths and heights, photographs if available, and your preferred timing. Mention known damp or leaks, the wall construction if known, and whether the property will be occupied.
Include any survey, specification or proposed product, along with the sockets, radiators, skirting and finishes affected. If you do not have a design yet, say so. The first conversation can establish what is still needed before an installation price is agreed.

We can discuss phasing, but the design should take in adjoining rooms, floors and ceilings before the first room is started. Protection, temporary access and service interruptions need agreeing as part of the programme.
Insulation should not be used to hide damp. Investigate and resolve its cause first, then assess whether the proposed insulation and ventilation approach is suitable.
