A pocket door needs space for the complete frame as well as the doorway. Before ordering, match the chosen system to the proposed wall construction, door leaf and finished floor. Treat these as one coordinated opening.
Choose the complete pocket-door system
Write down the frame model, door leaf size and weight information, handles, latch and any soft-close components. Check which parts the supplier includes. The system name alone may not tell you whether a door leaf, finishing kit or chosen ironmongery is supplied.
ECLISSE’s sizing guidance distinguishes stud thickness, pocket frame thickness, finished wall thickness and overall frame dimensions. Use its technical information only for the relevant model. Other products need their own checked details.
Check the full wall space
The visible opening is only part of the required space. Ask the installer to check the overall frame position, adjacent walls and the length available for the pocket. Confirm the intended clear passage, because it may not equal the door leaf width.
An alteration to an existing structural wall needs the appropriate assessment and design. A pocket-door fitting quotation is not automatically an appointment to design a structural opening. Identify that responsibility before the opening arrangement is agreed.
Resolve services and fixtures before closing the wall
Mark switches, sockets, pipework, shelving and other fixtures near the pocket. Ask how they can be accommodated by the selected system and wall design. Do not plan fixings or service routes into the pocket just because the wall space looks unused.
State any required fire, acoustic or other performance provisions clearly. An ordinary decorative door and frame should not be substituted for a specified performance assembly. The responsible designer and installer need the complete requirements before products are chosen.
Pocket-door coordination sheet
| Record | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Complete system | Frame, leaf, hardware, finishing components and supplier responsibilities. |
| Wall and opening | Wall build-up, overall frame space, clear passage and design reference. |
| Interfaces | Services, fixtures, finished floor, trims and required performance. |
| Closure and handover | Inspection owner, release to board, finish scope and product documents. |
Coordinate the floor and finish
Provide the finished floor level and covering information. Ask how the frame setting-out, door clearance, wall boards, trims and skirting will meet. Changing the floor or wall finish after the frame has been selected may require another compatibility check.
Before boarding, record who checks the frame and services and who authorises closure. Keep the current product instructions, opening drawing and agreed finish details together so the relevant trades work to the same arrangement.
Use one opening record
In a hypothetical refurbishment, the owner first chooses a pocket frame and later adds a nearby wall-mounted cabinet. The team checks the fixing and service requirements against the pocket location before closing the wall.
For a fitting enquiry, send the postcode, wall photographs, drawings, product details and finish requirements. Explain whether the wall exists or will be built, and who supplies the door, frame and hardware. Final measurements and suitability are confirmed for the opening on site.
