PRACTICAL BATHROOM ADAPTATIONS
Accessible bathrooms and wet rooms in London
Vayton Construction welcomes accessible bathroom and wet room refurbishment enquiries across London and surrounding areas. We plan the construction around the person using the room, the agreed layout and the existing building, from a more accessible shower area to a wider bathroom adaptation.

A layout shaped around everyday use
Start with the changes that would make the room easier to use: entering the shower, reaching controls, moving around fittings or allowing space for assistance. If you already have an occupational therapist’s recommendations or an accessibility designer’s plan, include them with your enquiry.
Positions for seats, rails, controls and sanitaryware need to be agreed for the intended user and the chosen products. The construction package should identify backing and fixing requirements before walls are finished. Describe the practical requirements; you do not need to send medical records to request a building quotation.
Level-access showers and wet room feasibility
A flush shower entrance depends on more than removing the existing tray. Floor construction, drainage position, available depth and the route to the waste connection all affect what can be built. Existing flats may also have access restrictions and shared-building requirements to establish.
A site assessment and suitable design information are needed before confirming a level-access arrangement. Where it cannot be achieved within the existing floor, the design may need an alternative solution or a wider scope. Structural alterations and specialist service changes require the appropriate input.
Waterproofing, drainage and suitable finishes
The wet area needs a coordinated system of floor preparation, drainage, waterproofing and compatible finishes. Junctions, penetrations and the transition to the surrounding room should follow the agreed system and manufacturer’s requirements. Tiles and grout alone should not be treated as a complete waterproofing solution.
Discuss floor finishes suitable for the intended wet use, cleaning requirements and the chosen fittings. The quotation should distinguish removal, preparation, plumbing, waterproofing, fitting and final finishes, with electrical and ventilation work assigned to the relevant specialists.
Plan access to essential facilities
Tell us if this is the only bathroom or toilet and whether the home will be occupied. Removal, service changes and product curing times can leave facilities unavailable. Access arrangements and any temporary alternatives need to be discussed before the programme is agreed.
Client-supplied fittings can be considered where dimensions, fixing details and delivery dates are available. Agree who checks compatibility, orders each item and deals with missing parts. We review projects across North, South, East, West and Central London and surrounding areas.
General bathroom refurbishment ↗Accessible bathroom questions
Can any bathroom become a wet room?
Many rooms can be assessed for conversion, but a flush entrance is not possible in every existing floor without further work. Drainage, floor depth, structural constraints and waterproofing details must be considered before confirming the layout and price.
Do I need an occupational therapist’s plan?
If you have recommendations, share them so the construction follows the agreed brief. Where the layout must meet particular mobility or care needs, appropriate professional advice can help establish the requirements. Vayton’s quotation covers the agreed building work.
What affects the cost of an adaptation?
The existing condition, drainage changes, floor build-up, waterproofing, fittings and finishes all matter. Access, specialist work and keeping facilities available can also affect the scope. We price the agreed work and identify supply responsibilities and unresolved items.
